Membranes deliver double the flux of cast membranes

Nxtnano announced a market wide roll out of nFLUX, its patented nanofiber membranes targeted toward the micro-filtration and micro-venting markets. Available as stand-alone membrane or as a laminate on a wide variety of nonwoven media, nFLUX is poised to shake up the micro-porous membrane market by delivering over a 100% improvement in flux compared to traditional cast membranes. “As one of the pioneers in bringing nanofiber materials to the performance apparel space, we had a great basis of know-how in fabricating mass quantities of nanofiber membrane. Despite this, the micro-filtration and micro-venting applications pose their own set of challenges with a very diverse range of applications. A big part of what we have been working on is the ability to combine the nFLUX membranes with a wide range of PP, PE, or PET backers in-house allowing our customers to select a completed media and get to market faster,” says Andrew McDowell, Nxtnano, LLC’s director of sales. nFLUX nanofiber membranes are targeted as replacements to traditional cast films but consistently deliver double the flux. Pore size of the membranes starts as low as 0.2 microns and can go up to over 10 microns when required. nFLUX membranes made from polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) are available immediately. Polyethersulfone (PESU) is available on an as required basis for high temperature applications. Alan Smithies, VP of Technology at Nxtnano LLC, shared that the membranes were far exceeding customer’s expectations; “Our nFLUX membranes have fantastic mechanical durability, when customers get to handle them they are genuinely shocked as its not something they have ever seen or even thought possible in a nanofiber product. When this is combined with the versatility and low pressure drop performance delivered by our membranes it makes the choice to switch quite easy.”
